This quiet place I did not choose—
I did not have one hour to lose.
But God decided in His grace
To save me from my frantic pace.
Surrounded by green, leafy trees,
Caressed by gentle, calming breeze,
Content to rest in quiet beauty,
Unhampered by compelling duty.
The joy wrapped in this sorrow here
Makes pressing problems disappear.

I wrote this poem when my car overheated downtown, and I was forced to wait for it to cool down before driving again. At the time, a lovely woman named Kristen came to my aid with rags, water, and coolant. And the stressful time I expected became an oasis of peace in the midst of an over-crowded schedule. In those quiet moments, I experienced that “peace that passes all understanding” mentioned in Philippians 4:7. Isn’t God good? (All the time!)
