And I defanged a cockatrice:
Just ripped its fangs right from its head:
I bravely faced my fears and fought,
Though hope to win lay dead.
The cockatrice stood poised to strike,
So trapped I was within my dream:
No place to run, nowhere to hide,
No one to hear my scream.
The monster shrank without its fangs,
Still threatening, though lacking power.
I woke up seeing I HAD WON,
Delivered that same hour.
And I defanged the cockatrice,
A feat I feared could not be done:
Before I knew the fight was on
My victory was won.
