I cannot come to school ‘cause
My triceratops just broke his leg!
My good friend, Trike, had been my ride,
But he lies moaning on his side:
I’ll simply have to be excused
Until he’s fixed to walk again—
This trouble I would never choose:
I never want my friends in pain!
But, since mine is, I must stay home
To tend him and to doctor him.
In eight weeks, he may have a chance
To join me at the preschool dance –
Assuming he is healed and whole—
But these things I cannot control!
And so while my dear friends’s in need,
I’ll stay home while I learn to read.

Outside the library – Wouldn’t this make a fabulous children’s book?
